Perfect Paisley

Canvas 3 – Diesire mixed media die set -Perfect Paisley.

So this is where things begin to get a bit more challenging when there is no focal image as such, just shapes. I wanted a lot of colour and texture combining multiple materials. I liked the idea of quirky little birdies to create a feature for the canvas but these dies would of course mix wonderfully with other things when used simply as a paisley pattern.

Brace yourself for the list of materials!

And yes, I was lucky enough to get to use Sheena’s new stencils in October! don’t tell anyone!… and yes that’s how long I’ve been working on these projects!

I used two canvases here, A flat 12′ x 12′ and a deep 8’x8′. I prepared the texture and colour separately on each and stuck them together at the very end.

I embossed Sheena stamping card with multiple patterns and stuck randomly down. I used matt medium on top as well to seal. I stuck on the fabric, lace, bottons and embellishments.  I created more texture with clear texture paste put through a couple of  die cuts using CC dies (used as stencils). When dry I covered the whole lot with white gesso to neutralise.

Next I did the inking and stamping (ink and paint) and sanding. I also used Sheena’s stencil to highlight parts with sparkle medium.

I then prepared the birds. I  cut a range of materials- mount board, patterned card stock, book print etc. I assembled the shapes and then inked and doodled on them. I drew stripey stockings and cut them out. I highlighted the birds freehand with pebeo foiling gel and when tacky dry I foiled with gold pebeo foil. I stamped the sentiment and added a few finishing touches in the form of bakers twine, fabric daisies buttons and sparkly gems.

Here’s version two. I think I prefer the colouring to the first one!
