This is a mixed media project I did for Crafter’s Inspiration magazine issue 16 using the 3D embossing folder which came free with the magazine. Ive been asked to post some step by step photos in addition to the instructions set out in the magazine. So I hope this helps! Obviously check out the issue for more inspiration and ideas. Assemblage clock winter scene instructions

 

Materials

Embossing folder; C16 ‘Christmas Village’; Assemblage clock- Idea ology Tim Holtz

Card and adhesive

Water colour card; Sheena stamping card; Small piece of white mount board; Red linertape; Hot glue gun.

Dies

Die’sire-  Mixed media Traditional Bauble base- ‘peace’ sentiment; Sara Signiture- Contemporary Christmas-‘Snowflakes of Joy’

Colouring materials and gels

Pebeo-  Deco Crème Acrylic Blue (24) and Turquoise (27);White Gesso; Gilding Wax-Antique Gold; Texture Gel –White Sand; Spectrum Noir Sparkle pens in purple, dark blue light blue and yellow

Finishing touches

Gems;Purple organza Ribbon;Blue and white baker’s twine;Iridescent glitter;White flower soft

The Method:

Mix the blue and turquoise paints and paint two coats on to the outside of the clock. Paint the inside with white gesso and leave to dry.

 

Using texture gel and your finger smudge small amounts around the outside of the clock. When dry gild with the wax leaving some blue areas exposed. Highlight sparingly with white gesso blending with your finger.

Emboss the scene on to water colour card twice. Colour a full scene with sparkle pens and when finished highlight with the purple pen as it appears on the cover of the folder. Repeat the colouring on the second embossed scene without the purple block colouring.

Cut around the first scene using the clock base as a template and highlight some areas with glitter. Fussy cut a row of houses and some trees from the second scene and highlight with glitter and white flower soft.

Carefully place the glass front into the clock and stick in place with a hot glue gun. Then working from the back stick some trees to the front behind the glass using red liner tape. In the centre of the clock stick down the row of houses using hot glue. Finally stick the main scene to the inside of the clock lid and push into place at the back sealing the clock.

Die cut a medium and small snowflake in white card and the ‘Peace’ sentiment from white mount board. Tie the bows and assemble as seen using hot glue or collall gel.

Tips

1. It is really important to make sure that the glass is firmly stuck in place and carefully cleaned on the inside before the clock is sealed. I used some stick away spray on kitchen roll.
2. Make sure the glitter and flower soft glue is dry before assembling the inside of the clock.
3. Don’t get paint around the rim of the clock back otherwise it will be difficult to push into place.
