Butterfly meadow

It’s monthly challenge time again at Lavinia stamps. With the very tempting theme of buds and blossoms. You could be the lucky winner of £40 of LS vouchers!!!

For today’s inspiration I decided to combine my Jane Davenport water colours with metallic watercolour and posca pens. It turned out to be quite a vibrant little picture.

Today’s stamps from Lavinia are:

Rory

Bluebells

Lavender

Wild flower

Field grass

Butterflies

I began by taping down some watercolour paper using washi tape. I washed over the paper with water to work wet on wet. Leaving a pale area to the top right I applied colour in blocks and incorporated some metallic areas and left to dry.

It doesn’t look pretty but the idea is just to have fun and create a colourful backdrop.

I then did some stamping using versa Clair and distress oxide inks.

Next I added white gel pen to the flowers and drew in the sun in white through a circle stencil. The white acts as a base to build colour later.

I continued to build the colours using posca pens. They have a lovely opaque quality. I also added yellow to the sun and blended it with water. Another tip too is to smooth some of the background areas using white pigment ink and a make up brush. This blends the uneven colour and brightens areas so they look lit.

I stamped the focal images in black. I continued to add dots and doodles of colour using the pens to create the impression of flowers.

I removed the tape to reveal the white border and added some final highlights – little orbs where created by drawing small white circles with the gel pen then using a white Stabilo pastel pencil added a chalky outer layer. I also used this technique for the sun. Finally I added a few touches of diamond stickles here and there.

I hope you like it!

Good luck in the challenge. Looking forward to seeing what you do!

Till next time ..
