Yes it’s mid month again and the Challenge at Lavinia stamps is well under way! For those of you who have Christmas in the bag and are looking for an additional challenge look no further! There are some amazing entries so far! Up for grabs this month is £40 of LS vouchers. The new theme is ‘ Snow at Christmas ’ … A wonderful theme !

Another excuse to create a snowy scene!

The steps:

First up an inky background with plenty of white.

Then create two light sources using gesso and pastel pencils.

Using ink and make-up brushes add strokes of ink across the moon.

Then the stamping. Purples for the trees gradually getting lighter towards the back and dark foliage in the foreground. The fairy is also dark in silhouette.

I then painted the seed pods using white gesso.

I coloured them using water colour markers.

They were then over stamped. I made sure that I cleaned away the ink around the pods before stamping.

Next I added a little detail to the picture with inks and pastel pencils. Pale distress oxide was brushed across to create the effect of low cloud and mist.I also added a shadow under the snail with my charcoal pencil and a few highlights with a white pen for snow and grass. I darkened areas of the sky using make-up brushes and purple ink.

I splattered watered down white gouache paint for snow.

Finally, a few touches of glitter. I also later enhanced the clouds using white gesso.
