It’s mid month again and time for a gentle reminder that if you haven’t already done so it would be great if you could join us in our Monthly creative challenge. The theme is ‘woodland magic’ and there’s still plenty of time to enter for a chance to win £40 of LS vouchers!

Here’s a little more inspiration from me. I gave this artwork to my lovely Mum for her birthday last week. She lives in Portugal and I thought that the cherry blossoms would be a reminder of home here in Northern Ireland. I hope she liked it!

The steps:

I selected a pretty paper from the pad and cut it into a smaller rectangle.

Taking some green ink, dark and light I stamped the large tree.

Next I tore some copy paper roughly in a round shape and used the paper as a mask to stamp the cherry tree in pink, peach and green ink. I also sponged some pale green distress oxide ink around the bottom of the images to create a background misty effect at their bases.

Taking a dark pink ink I began to stamp the cherry branch.

I stamped the Fairy in dark brown and I inked against more torn copy paper to do a little landscaping. I then darkened the edges of the project using brown and pink ink and added black charcoal pencil to the dark parts of the fairy.

I coloured the blossom using paint pens ,adding some stamped blossom to the fairies hair.I also stamped some more blossom in black ink.

Next I added shadow under the fairy, coloured the trees using coloured pencils and charcoal pencils. I also deepened the foreground colours and added some fallen petal details to the grass.

I then decided to the stamp and colour lilies at the front, again using paint pens.

Finally I mounted the artwork and added the obligatory glitter.

I do love a bit of brown and pink!
