Yes it’s the first of the month again! It’s August! Time for a Creative challenge at Lavinia stamps. Congratulations to last month’s winner . Up for grabs again this month is £40 of LS vouchers. You can enter up to 5 times! The new theme is ‘ Orange and lemon’ … A good challenge!

The new full moon will make its appearance here in the UK on 3 August so I decided to create a moon scene with an orange and lemon glow.

The steps:

I sprayed some yellow and pink ink on to mixed media card.

I trimmed the card a bit and drew a circle to create a moon. I create my moons by first painting a layer of gesso and then lightly building up the moon texture using pastel pencils. I use a reference image for the moon. It doesn’t have to be exact. When I am happy with the layers I use spray fixative to set the pastels.

To create the glow effect I blend soft white pastel around the outside and line the circle using a white gel pen. I then gradually colour around the card edges. First using orange then dark red blended on top and yellow over all of it.

Next I stamped the first Wolfe in black and used torn copy paper and dark pink ink to create a hill landscape.

I added yellow distress oxide to parts of the hill as a moon light reflexion and a dark shadow to the side of the Wolfe.

I completed my stamping adding the trees, the second Wolfe and the crow all in black. I masked the hill using the copy paper before stamping the trees. I also added another hill in the foreground and some shadows under the Wolfe. A yellow paint pen was used for the stars and some hill foliage. I also added some paint pen dots in orange.

The wolves were darkened using a black stabilo all pencil.

To finish the art work I added yellow and white highlights to the animals and dots and dashes to create the impression of grasses and flowers touched by moonlight. I also used my gold stardust pen and diamond stickles glitter glue for a little twinkle.
