The search

Hello my friends I’m back playing again with my magical Lavinia stamps. Today I’ve gone for something a little atmospheric. As usual the picture evolves from what the inks present. They are random but somehow always offer a story. My task is to discover what the story is! This time I saw a cave.

Here are the stamps used:

Enchanted dreams

Fairy thistle

See a fairy make a wish

The steps:

This was my ink print. It had a lot of blue mica in the shape of a cave. It was created by spraying the inks, adding a spritz of water and pressing a clean dry piece of card on top. When pulled apart two totally unique prints are revealed. I then trimmed one of them down.

I then marked the position where the lamp was likely to be from the main image stamp with a pencil dot. Using white gesso I created a circle and used different sized circles made of card to draw around with my white gel pen. I created the haze effect with white pastel over the top.

I used torn copy paper and dark blue ink to create a landscape and I stamped the focal image also in dark ink. I further enhanced the colours in the background with distress oxide inks and strengthened the colour of the lamp light and parts of the cave with my pastel pencils. I drew a rough shadow under the snail with a charcoal pencil.

The thistles were stamped in different colour purples and black from pale to dark depending on whether they were close up or far away.

I painted the pod heads with white gesso, coloured them with watercolour ink and then over stamped them again.

Finally I used my paint pens, white gel pen and charcoal pencil to enhance the foreground. Loose dots and dashes create a meadow like effect. I stamped the sentiment 3 times across the top and added little dots of my lilac lustre spray here and there using a small applicator. These catch the light and add extra glow. Glitter was also added of course, particularly to the snail and fairy wings!

I hope that you have a go and make your own lamp light scene.

till next time…

And your use of different size circles to draw your white circle is very clever 🙂

  2. As usual your background scenes are AMAZING!!! That coupled with your photos and we’ll written comments on what and how you are applying things just leaves me in awe. Best of all with your help I think I could do this too.
Thank you for all the work you put into your posts.
