I thought I would do a little MDF crafting featuring the Tattered Lace deep dish stag die.Today we are making a hanging Christmas themed home decor plaque. It is a mixed media piece in terms of combining paper, grey board, MDF and paints. I’ve gone for a heavily textured look using paint to create an MDF feel for the stag even though its cut from heavy board.
Here is what we are making:
Project 5 – MDF frame
This is what you will need:
MDF frame; stamping card and grey board. Also;
To begin I selected one of the background papers from issue 26 of the TL magazine. I used the stag die to cut grey board twice. I then stuck one on top of the other. I didn’t use the owl in the end. Next time!
I cut the background paper to size and highlighted parts with glitter glues. I then embossed some white card with the TL 12 days of Christmas embossing folder.
I painted the MDF frame and plaque with black gesso. I placed a thin layer of blue stardust paint on to the frame. I used distress inks, a little gilding polish and stardust paints on to the embossed card around the edges. I cut to size and stuck to the plaque.
The background paper was stuck down on top and the frame mounted on black foam pads.
The stag was painted with acrylic paint, stardust paints, gilding polish, alcohol markers and glitter stickles (that’s all). I tried to give the stag some personality using colour and texture so that it wouldn’t appear flat.I also highlighted parts with a white gel pen. If you don’t fancy giving the stag a face you could just as easily do the back view its still the same shape! Mine looks a bit cross!
I attached the stag to the frame with a glue gun.I drew small background birds across the moon with a fine liner pen. I added a bow and gem embellishment to the middle and tied a strip of ribbon to each side so the frame could be hung.Finally I highlighted the side and bottom of the frame with pink gems.

Hope it’s not too scary!
