This is the second piece experimenting with the Andy Skinner techniques and the wonderful DecoArt mixed media products.Yes, its a whole new world! This time I’ve had a go at the aged copper patina look and the crackle paste and gel-over glitter! I’ve gone for a more feminine design and it was just an excuse to use some of my crafty seaside stash too.
This is how it looks:
Here is what I used:
Background
I liked the idea of having textured aged copper so I embossed a delicate pattern on to Sheena’s stamping card using a lovely TL embossing folder. I traced around the outside of the mdf plaque and cut to shape. I stuck the card down using decoupage glue.
I then painted a layer of DecoArt fluid acrylic paint in dark grey. When dry I painted a layer of patina antiquing cream in green. When dry I wiped some of the patina cream off using a baby wipe. This revealed some dark areas. Finally I highlighted some areas using the Nuvo embellishment mousse in fresh copper. It really did look like aged copper!
The heart
Again using the decoupage glue, I painted a layer on top of the mdf heart and sprinkled glitter on top. I then added another layer of the glue on top to seal it.When dry I added a layer of the weathered wood crackle medium. After a few minutes I placed the crackle paste on top and watched the magic! Finally I highlighted parts with the distress inks and edged the heart with a little copper mousse.
Embellishments
I wanted to keep the colour palette pastel- pale pink/peach and pale turquoise. I die cut the shells in pink and highlighted in copper. The same for the mixed media tim holtz flower die. I also used the versatile frame die from the Downton Abbey range (Crafter’s Companion) I cut this in turquoise and again highlighted the edges in copper. The image was from the vintage postcards (Indigo blu). I chose a lovely paper from my sea breeze pad and ripped the edges and inked.I repeated the aged copper effect on the mdf seagull and anchor. I cut the ‘believe’ sentiment in brown card using a sizzix die.
Finally, I arranged the pieces and stuck down, adding ribbon, flowers, pearls and gems and copper pearl drops around the edges.
