It’s time for a little mixed media. I thought I would create something wintery! I had an idea in my head that I would do a piece that was restrained and understated…unfortunately as usual that didn’t happen!!
To create layers I used a range of materials, remembering that it’s all about colour, texture and lay out. I use scrap papers including embossed card.
I usually decide on my colour palette first and gather paints and inks that will mix well. I also like texture pastes and sparkle.
so, apart from the canvas, scrap papers and water colour card you will need:
I began by cutting a large tag and created a scene in the usual way.
I then worked on the canvas creating a base for the layers. I then added a light coat of gesso .
Next the stencils and sparkle texture paste.
I stamped script randomly on top of the stencilled work.
I cut and coloured the trees. I only used the sizzix dies in the end.
I stuck down the tag and gessoed around the edges. I continued stencilling diagonally across the canvas to incorporate the tag into the background. I darkened parts with a fine black liner and added snow and stamped birds. I then added the die cut trees around the edges of the tag.
I cut the sentiments from gold glitter card and added twine and metal embellishments to the top left corner.
I used distress ink to highlight parts of the background.
A filter makes it less busy!
