Beauty

Hello everyone! – Well finally some sunshine! What a change it makes. I love this time of year. Blossom and early buds, – majestic Rhododendrons, magnolia trees, lilac bushes and wisteria! All amazing.

This week’s project was again inspired by Monet and Impressionism and experiments with water soluble oil pastels. I’ve had them tucked away in a drawer for ages so I thought why not – let’s see what they can do. I tried many techniques to see what would work. Using them lightly as water colours, then building the layers both with a blending brush and then mixing them on the card and blending with my fingers. Finally I had a flower meadow setting for Mooch the cat to enjoy a lazy day in the grasses gazing at butterflies. I hope you like it.

You may find the video tutorial Here.

If you are interested in purchasing the oil pastel set that I used the video I have added it to both my Uk and US Amazon store fronts. They are reasonably priced and a fun option to use in a meadow scene.

  1. I adored this tutorial Lisa, I get lost between the layers when you construct a piece like this. Very much reminiscent of Monet (another artist whose talent I love) it feels fresh and freeing, I could run through that beautiful feild of flowers with the butterflies and kitty and do exactly what this piece invokes, taking In a deep breath and exhaling the joy. Beautifully composed Lisa. I love that every single time I watch a tutorial I am excited by the anticipation of “how will she get from there to there” and you always do. I purchased the watercolours from your link and a few other bits, it’s my go to now.
In awe and inspired as always.
    Much love and gratitude 🙏

  2. Thank you for beauty. I will try and do something similar as I don’t have any oil pastels but I love to watch you with the colours and how you blend everything. together, you make everything look so easy, but when I try to do it, it’ll not be so easy as you make it look. I will look forward to the next one you do thank you Lisa once again. Jacqueline
